An eminent teacher of Zen once said, “If you can break the wall of your self, you will become infinite in time and space.” This is the work of Zen. In other words, if we can dismantle the opinions, ideas and thinking that we have built up and fortified over the years, and return to a before-thinking mind—if we can do that wholeheartedly for one minute—we will then have the kind of authentic presence that makes world peace possible. Tiger Mountain Zen is a supportive practice facility for those who would like to learn about Zen training, try it out, and practice with others. Sessions are led by Anita Feng, a well-respected, experienced practitioner in the lineage of Zen Master Seung Sahn and Zen Master Ji Bong. Anita served as the past Abbot and Head Dharma Teacher of Dharma Sound Zen Center in Seattle. She has studied in the lineage of Zen Master Seung Sahn for the past twenty-five years. Anita works as a potter and writer, and lives in Issaquah with her husband and children.
A comprehensive Introduction to Zen Practice is offered in consecutive 3-week sessions, meeting once a week on Sunday mornings, from 9:30 am – 10:30 am. For details about the starting dates, contact the Yoga Barn at 425-427-0038 or Info@YogaBarn.com or go to the Yoga Barn website at www.YogaBarn.com . In the introductory classes: · An overview of the history and various traditions of Zen practice as they have developed in Asia and the West. · The mechanics of meditation, including detailed guidance in breathing, positions and posture. · How to deal with and maintain your practice through whatever arises in your mind. · Personal and individualized instruction suited to who you are. The most important, and sometimes the most difficult thing to do is just to begin. The second most important thing is to keep trying. Tiger Mountain Zen is designed solely to help you in your efforts. You don’t have to have any particular kind of body build to practice Zen. There are many sitting styles that can be used aside from assuming the lotus position! Standing, sitting in a chair, walking, even lying down Zen will work. Zen is an ancient tradition of Buddhist practice that was developed in China thousands of years ago and continues to this day in an unbroken lineage of keen-eyed masters. You are welcome to join us.
